funded by the Commonwealth Government. The NMPU's mission is to
coordinate and promote a national integrated approach to reduce
the incidence and impact of missing persons.

European Federation for
Missing and Sexually Exploited Children
Child Focus
was at the source of the initiative to group
together at European level different NGOs dealing
with the problem of the disappearance and sexual
exploitation of children. The European Federation
for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children, created
in June 2000, was officially launched on 4 May 2001
at the European Parliament. Apart from Child Focus
for Belgium, 18 other NGOs are member, representing
14 other countries :
The Federation, whose Chairman is Daniel Cardon de Lichtbuer,
who is also Chairman of Child Focus, is a humanitarian
international association, whose flexible and open structure
favours regular communication among the different members.
Missions
The Federation
• acts independently, only in the interest of
children, with reference to the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of the Child;
• joins the efforts in the fight against the
phenomena of missing and sexually exploited children
towards national governments, European institutions
and decision-makers;
• raises awareness;
• stimulates and conducts initiatives /activities to
improve the situation of minors, victims of
disappearance and/or sexual abuse, and to change the
legal norms, the mentality and behavior in Europe;
• facilitates communication between European
organisations towards a more efficient approach to
the fight against disappearance and sexual
exploitation of minors;
• creates, at the registered office of the
Federation, a centre of information and
documentation concerning the phenomena of
disappearance and sexual exploitation of minors;
• stimulates the creation of a European study centre
to centralise and analyse data concerning these
phenomena;

05/04/2001 The European Federation for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children, created in June 2000, was officially launched at the European Parliament. 19 member NGOs, representing 15 countries.
04/23/1999 At the British Embassy in Washington, DC, the First Ladies of the United States and the United Kingdom helped launch the new International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC). Its mission is to create and lead a coordinated, global response to the problems of international child abduction and child sexual exploitation.

1985 The first protest march by a
"left behind" father
was held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The protest was
against the actions of a parent who had removed a child
from the United States and retained the child outside
the U.S. against the wishes of her father.
